Default 4 cylinder big race ?

Why is it when there is a big 4 cylinder race in Alabama and other states we have drivers here that travel to those races and do very well but when we have a big race like the nationals that pays better than there races in other states. Why wont there drivers travel here and race in our big race like our drivers travel to there races?I just would love to see what kinda drivers and cars these other states have.Oh well just thinking out loud.Would love to hear some responces from u guys that travel to these other shows.

Good point dirtracingfool2!!! Here's my 2 cents worth. Years ago (back in the day, LOL) when the 4 cyl. Natl's first came into existence, it attracted tons of cars from all over the USA. Huge car counts showed for the big $$$"s. Now, we all had the benefit of the race being held in our backyard and on our home track, so naturally we had a little "leg-up" on the out-of-towners. I remember these o-o-t's pullin in and being amazed at our little 4 bangers!!! Said they looked and ran like Winston Cup cars (sorry- I'm old school) compared to theirs. With the technology available in our neck of the woods (Head Shed, Leagon, Johnson, Harris Chassis, Pace Chassis, etc.) our programs were far advanced of theirs. Not to crack on a man, but their weekly rules were basically knock the glass out, put a cage in, torque the bolts to spec. and ready-set-go!!!!! It didn't take long for the o-o-t's to realize they couldn't compete. So traveling car count dropped off. Now, it's basically a "king of the hill" contest between regional competitors.

As far as our local drivers still traveling to other states and doing well.....well, we still got the cream of the crop in our own back yards. And these guys can go anywhere and do well. Not only are they serious racers at home, but they can go and be threats most anywhere. Again, due to the technology available in our area, and racers being serious and on top of their game. Sometimes, as people complain about the little bumblebee cars, or the ****-boxes (as a friend of mine so lovingly refers to them), I don't think they realize that this area excells in 4 cylinder technology and a caliber of drivers that you can't find elsewhere. But the out-of-towners sure do!!!!! Thats why they don't bother coming back.

y'all are right on.

and to elaborate (sp?)........

the big race was supposed to increase by $1,000 to win each year from the original $10,000 and it did til it reached 12k. that's when all the cars from out of town started realizing they couldn't even make the race. i wish some of the newer fans could've seen some of the cars that traveled here. many couldn't even make that many laps at a slow speed...... nevermind run up front at top speed.

Good points Girlie Girl and i agree with everyone so far i just think with the track being 3/8's now instead of what it was they might be a little more competitive than they used to be.There some good 4 cylinder cars in other states out there i just wish a few would show up this year and give it a shot.I know we got the best of the best in our backyard but its kinda fun watching these out of towners race.I wish Kurt Owens would bring his 7up car that car looks like crap but is bad fast lol.Yes Kurt is Jimmy Owens brother lol.Oh well maybe we will get a few hotshoes from not around here show up.Anyone know any non Carolina drivers coming please post away lol.

kurt and jimmy used to race on a regular basis at cherokee in the early 90s. 1 of them got in a fight with somebody in turn 1 during an open wheel modified race. it might have been duayne hommel.
