Admisson to a weekly show has went up $5.00 in 25 years.... I would imagine the cost of everything else has went up 10,15 times for the track as well as racers in that time.

$5.00 in 25 years? Where have you been going? When I started back 1986 it was $8.00 for pits at a weekly show until like 1989 or 1990, then it went to $10.00 and stayed there for almost a decade. In the last the last 7 years its climbed to $15 then $20. West Minster started out this season late and only charged $5.0 for grandstands and you couldn't shoe horn in another person. I think gate fees on grand stands have too high for weekly shows and if they lowered it back down to the $7.00 - $5.00 range they could fill the stands to capacity every week and sell more concessions too. Most families these days can't afford $10 bucks a head for a whole family, at least not twice a week. JMO.

Short tracks ( paved tracks more so than dirt tracks) are becoming more and more dependent on the back gate. Higher admission and concession prices are leading to more and more races being run in front of nearly empty stands. The big shows like this one will always draw, but overall, track owners and promotors are losing fans every year by not using common sense with their prices.

If they had higher payouts for the support divisions they would have alot more cars on the race track. Most tracks pay out double than what they are paying out for the support divisions. Not bashing on the SLM but on a nightly show you might get six cars. Their has been plenty of nights where the YGs division has the higher car count and put on a better show and only get $100to win.

cgf is right on about cherokee.

cherokee was $12 in the stands and $17 in the pits in the 90-92 era. that's no stands increase and a $3 pit increase in about 18-20 years.

racing has always been a hobby where one shouldn't participate if they can't afford to race for the payout.

i don't mean to be so blunt........ but if a racer can't afford what they're doing, they quit. if a promoter can't afford what they're doing, a track closes.
